The design principle of valve-regulated lead-acid batteries is to inject the required amount of electrolyte into the plates and separators. There is no free electrolyte. The negative plate is wet to improve the ability to absorb oxygen. In order to prevent the electrolyte from being reduced, the battery is sealed. Therefore, valve-regulated lead-acid batteries are also called "lean-liquid batteries".
